‘COMING TO AMERICA’ SEQUEL CONFIRMED AFTER NEARLY 30 YEARS

“I am very happy to be here!” – Prince Akeem

After rumors and years of speculation, Coming to America is receiving a sequel. Hollywood veteran funny man Eddie Murphy, who starred in the 1988 classic, now a staple in the homes across America, teased the possibility of a part 2 in a now deleted tweet that featured Vanessa Bell Calloway from the film with the caption: “Coming to America sequel?”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the sequel was confirmed by Paramount Studios this past spring. Director of Warm Bodies Jonathan Levine will direct the follow up, as Kenya Barris, Black-ish creator and co-writer of box office hit smash Girls Trip will write the film along side Barry Blaustein and David Sheffield, who wrote the original.

It’s reported that Murphy will be involved with the second installment, although no deal has been put in place as of yet. No word on if the rest of the original cast will return.

Coming to America starred the Harlem Nights star as Prince Akeem, an African prince who tries to find a wife of his own in New York City, as opposed to an arranged marriage. It co-starred James Earl Jones, Arsenio Hall, Shari Headley, and John Amos.
