The death toll from the COVID-19 pandemic across the world and Africa is getting serious and worse by the day.
The casualties cut across age groups.
While each death is reported with a sombre mood and with condolences to affected families, some of the casualties have united some countries.
From top politicians – former presidents, prime ministers and lawmakers, to entertainment icons and top sportsmen, the virus has left in its wake prominent casualties who could hardly get the send-off they would have been accorded in “normal times”.
YEN.com.gh has compiled a list of four Ghanaian doctors who died from the COVID-19 virus. These are also frontline workers who worked diligently to save lives.
Below is the list of four physicians who succumbed to the pandemic.
1. Professor Jacob Plange-Rhule
He was a consultant physician and former Rector of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons.
2. Dr Harry Boateng
He was a specialist paediatrician and medical superintendent at the Kwadaso SDA Hospital.
3. Dr Emmanuel Twagirayesu
He was a retired Orthopaedic Surgeon.
4. Dr Richard Kisser
He was a consultant surgeon with the Trust Hospital.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Medical Association has also revealed that over 150 medical officers across the country have also tested positive since the virus reached Ghana in March 2020.
According to a statement signed by the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the President tested negative after taking the COVID-19 test.
He has elected to self-isolate as a precautionary measure in compliance with COVID-19 protocols.
