When you talk about rap culture in Africa for the last decade there are two phenomenon rap act’s who definitely needs no introduction. MI Abaga also known as ‘rap chairman’ and Sarkodie also known as ‘the Highest’ are the two ‘heavy weights’ who have been ruling the rap game for god knows how long on the African soil.
Since the introduction of pop culture to the Africa scene there haven’t been a great rivalry between two great rap artiste on the same level who still love and appreciate each other no matter how their fans react. Sarkodie on countless occasions praised MI Abaga vice versa MI Abaga has also hailed Sarkodie on countless occasions.
During a live Instagram interaction between Sarkodie and Nigerian entertainment mogul Mr. Ubi Franklin Ekapong Ofem on ‘Talks with Ubi Franklin’ when he was asked by the host to collaborate with MI and do an African album and battle each other, Sarkodie stated that he is ready to battle MI but only when he gets a monetary motivation like $200k which MI also agreed. Even though it was said in a more comic manner it shows the respect the two have for each other. MI replied with this comment, ‘This na wetin Ubi love… instigator .. just came to pay respect to the legend sark!!!! People don’t know how hard it is to stay at this level so long..”
Definitely fans of the two rappers would love to see the two artistes work on a project together or engage in a rap battle which would definitely be an ‘icing on the cake’ considering the buzz it will generate for the African Hip-hop culture across the globe. Nigerian singer Kcee has already pledged to pay $100k to see the battle happen.
Sarkodie also touched on other issues including his quest to highlight his own show in Nigeria which the host agreed and pledged full support to make it materialize very soon.
