Kanye West’s Sunday Service Trademark Application Rejected: Report

Bad news for Kanye West. The 42-year-old rapper’s attempt to trademark Sunday Service has reportedly been denied.

According to a report TMZ published on Friday (Oct. 18), the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office reportedly rejected ‘Ye’s application for the exclusive ownership rights to the term Sunday Service. West was going to use the mark to sell apparel, footwear, dresses, headwear, accessories, loungewear and more.

According to the media outlet, someone else reportedly owns the name and therefore Kanye can’t use it because it might cause confusion in the marketplace.

Kanye’s Sunday Service events have become a weekly concert attraction with pop-up performances in Wyoming, Chicago, New York, Salt Lake City, Utah and other cities. Kanye is reportedly taking his next Sunday Service to Jamaica.

This news comes a few weeks after the original release date for Jesus Is King, a gospel-tinged album that was supposed to drop on Sept. 27. During a listening party for the album at George Washington University last Saturday (Oct. 12), Kanye said the LP now has a release date of Oct. 25.

XXL has reached out to Kanye’s team for comment.
