Waist beads have been used by ladies to become more mindful of their stomach and sitting posture.

They serve as reminder or timer to know when to sit straight or when to tighten your stomach muscles so your big stomach does not pop out. So for most ladies with big stomach its very vital.

Most African ladies buy and wear the waist beads to show their culture and heritage. Most Ladies wear it to connect to their ancestors who were sold into slavery. So its an identity every lady should reckon with.
