T.I. Thinks Cancel Culture Is Fake and Convenient: “You’ll Keep Wearing Gucci But You’ll Cancel Kanye”

T.I. is not convinced that cancel culture is real.

During a Tuesday (Oct. 29) episode of the Tamron Hall Show the rapper spoke to the show’s titular host and gave his opinion on cancel culture.

“All this cancel culture, I think it’s fake,” he said. “Like Jay-Z said, ‘First they hate you, then they love you, then they hate you again,” continued Tip, referencing lyrics from Jay-Z’s 2002 song “Meet the Parents.”

With Kanye West, who recently announced he would be going on tour, at the center of cancel culture for controversial comments, Tip explained how society picks and chooses the things they want to be outraged about, using Yeezy to make his point.

“You’ll cancel, just since you used him, you’ll cancel someone like Kanye, now I don’t agree with his views, there are a lot of things he say, a lot of positions and perspectives he speak from that I have no agreeance with, but that’s not going to take away from the fact that he is a phenomenal artist and he makes great music,” T.I. said. “But you will cancel him but at the same time when someone like Gucci does Blackface then you’re cool with that, so you’ll keep wearing Gucci but you’ll cancel Kanye.”

In other news, T.I. elaborated on his previous claims that his one-time signee Iggy Azalea was the biggest tarnish on his career. Speaking with hosts on Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club on Monday (Oct. 28), Tip said he didn’t mean to talk down on Iggy. He also said he felt like she switched up once she realized she appealed to White audiences.

“But as far as I’m concerned, when she found out White people liked her and she didn’t really need Black people to like her, she switched up. Started acting different,” Tip said. “Made moves I wasn’t proud of.”

That same day, Iggy responded with a thread of tweets dismissing what Tip had said. Tip hasn’t yet responded.
