This Lightweight Face Shield Helps Stop You From Touching Your Face and Spreading Germs

We’ve all been told time and time again that not only should we keep our face masks on, but we should avoid touching our face to lower the chances of getting COVID-19. However, this is easier said than done. According to one professional organization, the average person touches their face 23 times an hour. It can be hard to curb this habit, but, luckily, there’s a new sort of face covering that can really help. Blocc is a stylish face shield that’s making it much easier.

Ben Kim, Co-Founder of Blocc, was inspired to start the project after learning of a 2015 study showing that 44% of face touches involve mucous membranes that can cause illness if germs were to spread in the area. This led him to try to stop touching his face as much, which wasn’t as easy as he thought it would be.

“I never realized how often I touched my face until I consciously tried to avoid doing so,” he shared. “Knowing I needed to break the habit of touching my face while also searching for protective devices that could help keep me safe led to the creation of Blocc. It’s a face shield that is stylish and functional.”

This lightweight, reusable face shield provides a physical barrier that blocks subconscious face touching. This means that it will be much more difficult for the germs we encounter to make their way into our system and get us sick. Made from polycarbonate, Blocc has fog and scratch-resistant coatings that ensure you’ll always have a clear view.

Stylistically, the face shield has a minimalist design that makes it nearly invisible. Suitable for indoor and outdoor use, cycling enthusiasts may also appreciate that it can double as a wind blocker. But what if you wear glasses or need to use a face mask? Not to worry, Blocc adapts to both situations.

If you want to pop on a pair of glasses, simply remove the nose rest from the face shield and you are ready to go. Face masks can be used normally, as Blocc has been designed to leave enough space around the nose and mouth for most models on the market.

Blocc is currently available on Kickstarter, with shipping to begin in August 2020. Prices start at $24 for one face shield, with discounts available on multiple purchases.
